Volumes featurs or 'volumes' are quite a bit different from other big climbing holds. Usually this type of 'hold' is more like a modular wall feature. You fasten the feature to the wall using several bolts or screws, then fasten regular climbing holds to the feature. They usually come in some kind of pyramid or trapazoidal shape and are made with plywood panels. The plywood panels have t-nuts embedded which then allow you to fasten bolt-on holds to the outside of the feature.
Volume features are a great way to add a bulge or overhang to your wall. Making traverse walls a little more exciting is easy with Volume Features. If you want to drastically change the wall a wall climbs, features are a great way to do it.
