According to Answers.com a stalactite is: "An icicle-shaped mineral deposit, usually calcite or aragonite, hanging from the roof of a cavern, formed from the dripping of mineral-rich water." Another term we
use is 'Tufa'. Stalactite style climbing holds are very unique, and not too common yet. While they offer a totally different style of roof climbing, that is really the only place they belong. If placed on a vertical or slightly overhanging climbing wall this type of hold can be dangerous. If you've got a respectable roof section in your climbing gym, get some stalactites. If you don't have much of a roof section the only thing they are going to add to your wall is Weirdness!
